UNESCO World Heritage Site
UNESCO protects unique, unspoiled natural landscapes and cultural assets with the designation "World Heritage Site". The Swiss Alps Jungfrau-Aletsch region was inscribed on the UNESCO list in 2001. This wonderful mountain area with its unspoiled landscape, imposing peaks and magnificent glacier more than met all of the criteria imposed by the UNESCO World Heritage Committee.
414 km2 of the UNESCO Swiss Alps Jungfrau-Aletsch World Heritage Site is within the Aletsch Arena. Over the millennia, the largest glaciated area in Eurasia has created a landscape of unique beauty and amazing diversity. At the region's heart is the 23 km-long Great Aletsch Glacier, the longest glacier in the AlpsGreat Aletsch Glacier – the Aletsch Arena.
