Riederalp

Car-free, family-friendly and a dream for active nature lovers and anyone seeking peace and quiet

Like an oasis, Riederalp nestles into the unique natural landscape of the Aletsch Arena. Here, at 1,925m above sea level, the stress of everyday life becomes a distant memory. The car-free village exudes a homely, family atmosphere and has been awarded the “Family Destination” stamp of quality by the Swiss Tourism Federation. This makes Riederalp a perfect holiday destination for families, nature lovers and anyone seeking peace and quiet.

Discover highlights such as the two view points Hohfluh and Moosfluh, which look out over the Great Aletsch Glacier, or the Pro Natura Centre in the Villa Cassel, not to mention the spectacular downhill runs on the slopes of the extensive ski area. You can bring the action-packed day in the snow to a pleasant close with après-ski.

Sports action all-year-round

Experience the winter on Riederalp! Have fun on the slopes in the Aletsch Arena ski area, enjoy a leisurely stroll along the snow-covered streets with a view of the imposing Matterhorn thrown in for free, or summon up the courage to take a jump on the Big Airbag: Riederalp in winter offers a colourful array of options to really let yourself go.

And it’s actually no different in summer, when Riederalp becomes the perfect starting point for countless walks and hikes – across the suspension bridge that spans the Massa Gorge, for example – as well as bike tours or golf.

Riederalp – the holiday resort for families and active nature lovers

Situated high above the Rhône Valley, Riederalp is a holiday paradise for all seasons and the starting point for walks, hikes, bike tours, a round of golf or snow sports. Thanks to the altitude and the temperature difference of roughly 10 degrees to the valley, arriving at Riederalp in the middle of summer is beautifully refreshing, while in winter snow is guaranteed. Not far from the village, the Great Aletsch Glacier is the heart of the Swiss Alps Jungfrau-Aletsch UNESCO World Heritage Site. You can reach the popular Swiss holiday resort from Mörel by cable car. The little villages of Greich, Goppisberg and Ried-Mörel also belong to the municipality of Riederalp, situated halfway up between the valley and the alp.

Sights

There are two different viewpoints on Riederalp in the Aletsch Arena. Both vantage points are unique thanks to the different perspectives they offer on the Aletsch Glacier. Dating back to the start of the 20th century, Villa Cassel is also a splendid sight that is not to be missed.
