Bettmeralp

Car-free, family-friendly and full of surprises

Picturesque Valais chalets, helpful residents, a vibrant village centre with shops, bars and local grocery stores: anyone who sets foot on car-free Bettmeralp for the first time is immediately blown away by the charm of this picturesque village at 1970 metres above sea level.

This part of the Aletsch Arena is extremely popular for family holidays in Switzerland. Hardly surprising, really: in winter, the sweeping mountain landscape is ideal for skiing or sledging and much more. In summer, the diverse terrain and breathtaking views attract numerous hikers, bikers and trail-runners.

Besides Bettmeralp, the Aletsch Arena also includes Riederalp, Mörel-Filet, Lax, Fiesch, Fieschertal and Fiescheralp.

Bettmeralp – the holiday resort for the whole family

300 days of sun are a compelling argument for a holiday destination. Bettmeralp on the Valais sunny plateau certainly makes the most of it. Take a look at the webcam and see the blue sky above the Aletsch Arena for yourself. Bettmeralp can only be reached via the large-cabin cable car from Betten valley station or the aerial tramway from Betten valley station via Betten Dorf. But this slight inconvenience means that the holiday resort at 1970 metres altitude is car-free. The Great Aletsch Glacier and the local mountain, Bettmerhorn, are further arguments why a holiday here is worthwhile for the whole family and all other nature lovers. Come and relax on Bettmeralp.

Active recreation in winter and summer

When the snow transforms Bettmeralp into a magical land of pristine white beauty, it’s time to get skiing, snowboarding or sledging. The breathtaking ski area has something for everyone.

On the other hand, in the summer Bettmeralp is the ideal starting point for walks, hikes and bike tours at the heart of the fascinating Valais mountain panorama. On hot days, for example, a swim in Lake Bettmersee provides a welcome opportunity to cool down.

The Maria zum Schnee chapel is part of the Grand Tour of Switzerland and one of the country’s true highlights. Winter experience

What activities await you?

Jump out of bed straight onto the 104 kilometres of slopes in the Aletsch Arena: “ski-in, ski-out” is possible on Bettmeralp, where snow is guaranteed. It’s the same with going shopping on skis. That's because in the car-free holiday resort, there are ski stands instead of parking spaces outside the grocery store. But even if you don’t travel on two boards, you’ll still get your money’s worth on Bettmeralp. The area is ideal for snowboarding, sledging and snowshoe tours. And if you prefer a more relaxed pace, you can enjoy the romantic, snow-covered landscape on a winter walk.
