  • Destination: Mountain station Bettmeralp aerial cableway

From the mountain station of the Bettmeralp aerial cableway you hike through the village of Bettmeralp, past the chapel Maria zum Schnee, to the Hotel Alpfrieden. There you follow the path leading to the valley station of the Bettmerhorn gondola. Upon arrival, a short climb to the Bettmersee begins. The circular route first leads you along the eastern side of the Bettmersee, then up to the alp stable and back to the Bettmersee. During the summer months, cows of local farmers are still kept in the alp stable. You return to the starting point of the circular hike via the same way: pass the valley station of the Bettmerhorn gondola and hike through Bettmeralp westwards to the mountain station of the Bettmeralp aerial cableway.

Safety guidelines

Winter sports report

Use of the winter hiking trails and information on this website is at your own risk. Conditions on site may cause changes to the route.

  • Carry a map with you. Download the complete description of the hiking trail along with a large-scale map by clicking "Print" at the top right of the page.

  • Use only marked hiking trails and follow all signs and instructions – for your own safety, to protect grazing animals, and to avoid disturbing wildlife.

  • Be considerate of other trail users and the landscape. Take your waste and that of others with you.

  • Bring additional sun protection. UV rays can be especially strong at high altitudes, even on overcast days.

  • Plan your hike carefully: consider the fitness required for all participants, weather forecasts, and seasonal conditions.

  • The weather conditions in the mountains can change very quickly without warning. Appropriate clothing and enough provisions (food and drink) are very important. In unstable weather, it is better to turn back early.
  • Do not go onto glaciers without a mountain guide.
  • Observe warning signs indicating dangers, especially avalanche risk.
  • Inform third parties of your route and never go alone whenever possible.

Note(s)
Due to altitude and trail conditions, good footwear is absolutely necessary for this winter hike.
