Marmot Nature Trail – On the Trail of the Marmots

Have you ever heard the shrill whistle of a marmot? On the Marmot Nature Trail above Bettmeralp, you’ll embark on an exciting journey of discovery into the world of these fascinating Alpine inhabitants. With a bit of luck, you might even spot these cute creatures in their natural habitat!

Your adventure begins at Bettmeralp. From the cable car’s mountain station, you’ll walk eastwards to the Wurzenbord chairlift, which will take you comfortably to the starting point of the themed trail. From there, the varied hike leads you through the beautiful Valais mountain landscape down to the idyllic Lake Bettmersee.

Along the way, four informative stations will teach you all sorts of fascinating facts about the lives of marmots. How do they spend their long hibernation? What do they eat? And why do they warn each other with their distinctive whistles? The nature trail offers interesting insights into the way of life of these shy mountain dwellers and turns the walk into a special nature experience for the whole family.

Keep your eyes peeled and your ears pricked along the way: With a little patience and a keen eye, there’s a good chance you’ll spot marmots amongst the rocks and on the alpine meadows. At the same time, you’ll enjoy the fresh mountain air and the magnificent views of the surrounding Alpine landscape.

Once you arrive at Bettmersee, a lovely finale awaits you. Here you can unwind, enjoy nature or have a barbecue together at the family fire pit. So do allow a little extra time for your hike.
