From Riederalp Mitte go east to the valley station of the Moosfluh glacier railway. Take the railway up to the starting point of the hike at the View Moosfluh. Along the ridge path you now hike westwards via Hohfluh to the Riederfurka, to the impressive Villa Cassel. Along the experiential trail you have the opportunity at five stations to immerse yourself deeper into the world of the UNESCO World Heritage Site. Informative, acoustic and playful themes include wilderness and civilization, nature reserve and alpine farming, water shortage and water reservoir, ridge and poor souls, or nature conservation and tourism. Several beautiful viewpoints make this easy thematic trail additionally an experience. The last stage of the hike is the descent from the Riederfurka down to the Riederalp.

Directions & Parking facilities

Take canton road 19 to the Mörel-Filet exit, then continue to the signposted parking options. Take the Riederalp cable car (Aletsch Bahnen AG) up to Riederalp. 

  • Limited number of paid parking spaces at Mörel-Filet station. Additional parking options are signposted. 
  • Large, paid parking garages at the entrance to Mörel-Filet as well as in the village center. 
By train from Brig or Oberwald to Mörel-Filet, then on foot to the Riederalp cable car (Aletsch Bahnen AG). Take this up to Riederalp.
