  • 2 m
  • 665 m
  • 1,983 m
  • 2,648 m
  • Difficulty: difficult
  • Start: Bettmerhorn Station
  • Destination: Bettmeralp Village

Important note: We recommend riding the trail section from Bettmerhorn to Biel – where you then turn left towards Bettmeralp – early in the morning or later in the afternoon. Reason: there are many hikers on the ridge section between Moosfluh and Bettmeralp during the day.

The Glaciara Trail starts directly at the top station of Bettmerhorn, the highest point in the Aletsch Arena bike area. Tip before you drop in: take 5 minutes to visit the viewpoint – amazing glacier views.

Then it begins: steep, rocky, wild – straight down along the ski slope towards Hohbalm. Continue straight along the ridge trail until the Biel junction. There, turn left and ride down via the Aletsch slope to Bettmersee and finally into the village of Bettmeralp.

Highlights:

  •  Start at 2,647 m with glacier views
  • Lines over rock slabs & historic paths
  • Can be combined with the Martisberg Trail
  • Trail signs: follow the red signposts with a white biker symbol and the label “Glaciara Trail”

Note: At the trail entrance and at transitions between different difficulty levels, the corresponding level is clearly marked.

Important: Show respect for hikers and nature in the Aletsch Arena – ride responsibly.

Insider tips:
  • Check key sections in advance – it’s worth it
  • In summer, stop for a swim at Bettmersee, then ride through the car-free village with shops and places to eat
  • Trail option: at the Hohbalm junction, turn left down via Schönbiel – Schönbodensee – Bättmerhitta. More flow, less traffic, and direct connection to the Martisberg Trail is possible.
