From the Bettmeralp cable car mountain station, first walk through the village eastwards to the winter hiking trail leading up to Bettmersee. After a short ascent, you can put on your cross-country skis directly at Bettmersee. The trail initially runs along the frozen and snow-covered Bettmersee. While you do your laps on the approximately 2 km long trail, you can enjoy the magnificent view over the Sun Plateau and the deeply snow-covered four-thousanders of Valais.

Winter sports report

Using the trails is at your own risk.
Use only marked trails and observe all signs and markings—for your own safety, to protect the landscape, and out of respect for wildlife.
Be considerate of other trail users.
Every cross-country skier must adjust speed and behavior to their ability and visibility, especially on downhill sections.
In classic tracks and on the free technique trail, keep a safe distance and ski on the right side behind the skier ahead.
If you stop, step out of the trail.
Weather conditions in the mountains can change quickly and without warning. Appropriate clothing is very important.

Weather-appropriate (water- and windproof) warm clothing and headgear
Sunglasses
Good sun protection, even in cloudy weather. UV rays at high altitudes can be particularly strong, especially in winter.

Directions & Parking facilities

Follow Cantonal Road 19 to the Bettmeralp valley station exit. Then take the Bettmeralp cable car (Aletsch Bahnen AG) up to Bettmeralp.

Large paid parking lot/garage at the valley station of the Bettmeralp cable car (Aletsch Bahnen AG).

Take the train from Brig or Oberwald to Bettmeralp valley station. Then take the Bettmeralp cable car (Aletsch Bahnen AG) up to Bettmeralp.
