This loop hike passes through the spectacular scenery of the Aletsch region and offers constant views of the Aletsch glacier, the largest glacier in the Alps. The hike begins at the Moosfluh mountain station, one of the four viewpoints of the Aletsch Arena. Follow the panoramic path towards the Bettmerhorn, with a continuous view of the glacier. After a short descent, you will approach the glacier (Chazulecher), before returning through the Aletsch forest. The climb is demanding but well worth it, with impressive views. From Alte Stafel, perhaps the most beautiful viewpoint, the path leads back to Moosfluh. The descent to Riederalp can be made on foot or comfortably by train.

Directions

From the Moosfluh mountain station, follow the panoramic path on the right towards the Bettmerhorn. The path skirts the mountain range with a view of the Aletsch glacier. After around 1 km, a short descent begins, leading to the ‘Chazulecher’ area near the glacier. From here, the path leads back towards the Aletsch forest. The ascent is steep but well laid out. Alte Stafel offers a particularly fine view of the glacier. The route then continues to the Moosfluh mountain station. The descent to Riederalp can be made on foot or by train, whichever you prefer.

Directions & Parking facilities

Take Kantonsstrasse 19 to the Mörel-Filet exit, then continue to the signposted parking areas. From there, take the aerial cableway up to Riederalp.

A limited number of paid parking spaces are available at Mörel-Filet train station. Additional parking options are signposted.

Large paid parking garages are located at the entrance to Mörel-Filet and in the village center.

Take the train from Brig or Oberwald to Mörel-Filet, then walk to the aerial cableway to Riederalp. Take the cable car up to Riederalp (Mitte). From there, you can reach the valley station of the Moosfluh cable car within 10 minutes on foot.
