Taste the Stars: Starry Dinner at Bettmerhorn

Experience the magical side of the night sky at Taste the Stars, our exclusive astronomy event on the Bettmerhorn. At an altitude of over 2,500 meters above the Aletsch Glacier, enjoy a culinary highlight combined with fascinating insights into the depths of the universe.

Here’s what to expect at the starlit dinner

Your journey into space begins in the late afternoon with an atmospheric mountain ride into the twilight. Once you arrive at the top, you’ll be welcomed with a refreshing welcome drink and a brief introduction to astronomy. We’ll then serve you a delicious three-course meal in the alpine atmosphere of the Bettmerhorn.

Between courses,  Hugo Kalbermatten—an experienced amateur astronomer, former president of the AGO (Astronomical Society of Upper Valais, Simplon, and Adler), and owner of his own observatory—will take you on a journey into the mysteries of the cosmos. His areas of expertise—the fascinating world of spectroscopy and astrophotography—will bring you closer to the light of the stars in a way that’s both easy to understand and captivating.

Highlights of the Evening

• Culinary delights at the summit: Enjoy an exquisite 3-course meal surrounded by the imposing mountain scenery of the Swiss Alps Aletsch, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
• Pure expert knowledge: Fascinating talks by Hugo Kalbermatten on stars, galaxies, and spectroscopy.
• Digital telescope experience: A true multimedia highlight—connect your own smartphone to our telescope, view the live feed of the starry sky directly on your screen, and save your own screenshots as a keepsake.
• Laser Star Tour: On a clear night, an expert will use a laser to point out the constellations and explain the night sky directly above the Aletsch region.

Program & Schedule

• 5:45 p.m.: Ascent from Bettmeralp to the Bettmerhorn
• 6:00 PM: Arrival, welcome drink, and a brief introduction
• 6:30 PM: Start of the 3-course dinner, accompanied by talks by Hugo Kalbermatten, followed by a digital telescope experience (and a laser stargazing tour if the weather permits) on the terrace.
