At the astrophotography workshop on Bettmerhorn, you gaze up at the night sky over the Aletsch Arena and realise: with all the big cities being so far away, there is hardly any light pollution here. The starry expanse above the UNESCO World Heritage Site is still a boundless sea of billions of stars. Awe-inspiring, fascinating, dumbfounding. The “Chasing Stars” sensory experience in the Aletsch Arena gives visitors the chance to capture this fascinating night sky with their cameras for posterity. Join Markus Eichenberger, the award-winning photographer and time-lapse photography specialist, and master the techniques of astrophotography in Valais! The Bettmerhorn Panorama Restaurant will be used as a base camp for a night. The workshops in the Alps are specifically for star photography and are suitable for everyone from beginners to advanced photographers.
Fascinated by the night sky? Then you’ll enjoy our activities for stargazers. The workshops are always held around the time of the new moon. You book a specific date and are then notified five days before the workshop whether or not the photography course in the Aletsch Arena will definitely go ahead. If the workshop is full, you’ll be added to the waiting list. Everything depends on the weather. The workshops will not be held if the weather conditions are poor or not enough people register (a minimum of four photographers is required).
Dates: daily from 10 to 25 January 2026
