Eggishorn piste closed for the 2021/22 winter season

For safety reasons, the Eggishorn return piste above Fiescheralp will regrettably remain closed this winter.

This is because of shifts in the terrain caused by melting permafrost.

“After receiving the expert’s report, we took the decision not to open the piste this season,” says Valentin König, CEO of Aletsch Bahnen AG. “The safety of our guests and employees is our top priority.”

Only around two out of 104 kilometres of slopes are affected by the closure. However, there is no danger to the Eggishorn aerial tramway. The mountain station is about 150 metres east of the affected area. So from Saturday (18 december), the cable car will be open for pedestrians travelling to the view point on Eggishorn. The other facilities and slopes operated by Aletsch Bahnen AG are not affected and are also open to guests as planned.
