Villa Cassel - a Victorian hideaway in the Swiss Alps

Mountain air makes you healthy - as Queen Victoria's personal physician once said to Ernst Cassel around the ende of the 19th century. The extremely wealthy British banker, who had left his native Cologne as a young bank clerk, followed the doctor's advice and went to Valais mountains - albeit reluctantly. It was to be love at second sight. Not far from the Aletsch Glacier, Cassel had an anything-but-modest holiday home built, where he spent many summers in the company of illustrious guests from British high society: the Villa Cassel. Today this historic house is open for boarding guests and visitors, with no charge for the breathtaking UNESCO-protected moutain landscape and utterly pure moutain air, which soon has you breathing deeply and freely.
