Mountain goat trekking – a village tour of a different kind
Goats, especially the Valais Blacknecks, are as much a part of Valais as the mountains and glaciers. The sometimes stubborn but also affectionate animals are primarily used for landscape conservation. Below Bettmeralp in Betten Dorf – a typical Valais village that has retained its original character – groups, families and individuals can get up close and personal with the life of the goats on a goat trekking tour, at the same time gaining plenty of interesting insights into the origins of the village and Valais agriculture. The pace is often dictated by the goats. If they find something to eat along the way, they take an im-promptu break.
The treks are offered from May to October and start at 10am after the goats have had breakfast and chewed the cud. Choose between half-day tours and multi-day tours where you spend the night in an alpine hut. An unforgettably authentic experience amidst the impressive mountain scenery of the Aletsch Arena.
