What exactly is forest bathing?

Why does a walk in the woods do you such good? Is it really just the fresh air? Is it about having a little timeout? Or could the trees have a special energy that somehow infuses your soul with a fresh vitality? A lot of scientists have been looking into this question in recent years – especially in Japan, where the forest-bathing tradition originated – and the insights are fascinating. Some forests are particularly well suited to “medicinal bathing in the forest” – such as the 1,000-year-old Swiss stone pine forest high above the Great Aletsch Glacier.
