The fascinating Great Aletsch Glacier. The mystical Aletsch Forest. Or the energy spots on the view points, where the positive energy of the earth’s radiation is particularly strong. It is not surprising that British writer J.R.R. Tolkien was deeply impressed by this unique natural landscape. The Aletsch Arena provided the inspiration for his best-selling novels “The Lord of the Rings” and “The Hobbit”.
In 1911, a young J.R.R. Tolkien went on a hike to Switzerland with university friends. Their route took the friends through the Aletsch Arena. Guests of the Aletsch Arena and fans of Tolkien’s fantasy literature about hobbits and elves can now follow in the footsteps of the acclaimed author. A guided day tour for adults and a special children’s trail takes visitors to the places that featured on Tolkien’s itinerary back then.
