They are trumpet-shaped or encrust stones and trees, some can be eaten, some are extremely clever at protecting themselves from predators. Lichens grow incredibly slowly, showing us whether the air is clean or where birds like to rest.
On a hike for young and old through the fairytale Aletsch Forest, we immerse ourselves in the fascinating world of lichens. They have names such as map lichen or reindeer lichen - their diversity is huge. On the way, we learn how they defy the most inhospitable living conditions and why they are nevertheless in sharp decline. Together we will follow the trail of this ingenious interplay between fungi and algae.
