Aletsch-Halbmarathon (Bettmeralp)
30.6.2013, zondag 09:45 o'clock
This challenging mountain run along the longest Alpine glacier, the Aletsch glacier, has been organized at Bettmeralp since 1986. In the early days, the distance to cover to reach the 2650-meter-high peak of the Bettmerhorn used to be 17.5 kilometers. Since that time, the mountain run - also called glacier run - has been constantly evolving. In the year 2000, after an in-depth preparation, the distance and the route were adapted to the demands of the runners, and the name was changed to "Aletsch Half-Marathon". As the name indicates, the run now covers exactly 21,2 kilometers. It bridges a difference in height of 1050 meters, with a start at 1950 meters above sea level. The earlier route led to the Bettmerhorn via Fiescheralp and Märjelensee lake. Since 2000, the route also includes the Riederalp with the Riederhorn mountain and the breathtaking view from the ridge over the Aletsch glacier (the only UNESCO world heritage site in the Alps), thus adding suspense and great natural beauty to the run.
